About the Slovenia BMS
The Slovenia BMS began collecting transect count data in 2007, later incorporating 15-minute counts, and continues to grow and support butterfly conservation thanks to the Slovenian Society for the Conservation and Study of Lepidoptera and the efforts of Primož Glogovčan (main coordinator) and Barbara Zakšek (assistant to the coordinator).

Are you new to butterfly counts? Do you need help identifying butterflies? Please contact the coordinators before starting a transect, they can help you place your transect and give advice on butterfly monitoring.

Field Guides
ABLE Slovenia Butterfly Field Guide I: A field guide with pictures to help identify 100 butterfly species that occur more frequently in different ecosystems of Slovenia. This is the first of two ABLE Slovenia identification guides; find the second one below.
You can download the PDF Slovenia Field Guide directly to your device or print it directly (select the booklet option in the printer) in two languages:
ABLE Slovenia Butterfly Field Guide II: Complete your knowledge of Slovenian butterflies with this guide. Along with 37 common butterfly species not included in field guide I, this guide includes 63 difficult-to-identify or locally distributed species. To facilitate identification, this guide links some species to similar ones in guide I by highlighting their names in red.
